Cortejo of Coimbra (or “Burning of the Ribbons” in english) is the BIGGEST STUDENT FESTIVAL IN EUROPE (if not the world) and it's considered the 2nd festival with most consumption of beer in the world as well!
What happens in Coimbra's Cortejo and why is it SO good?
Students collect money and find sponsors since their freshmen year in order to build a huge allegoric car to parade in the streets (always with a theme) and have tons of alcohol together - that means liters of beer, wine and spirits that will be given for FREE to everyone who is near, specially at the start of the parade! Seems unbelievable, doesn’t it? Believe it's true!
(We still advise you to bring one or two bottles yourself!)
Note 1: Before purchasing any tickets, you must read and follow the terms and conditions. https://www.erasmuslifelisboa.com/termsconditions/
Note 2: If you don't have our ELL card you can join the event but you have to purchase the "without ELL card" ticket option
Note: Please bring a towel, extra clothes to change and a swimwear (in case you want to go dive in the river at the end of the parade like the portuguese students do!)
