Sustainability Brand-Consumer Communication: Proof & Engagement over Promise
Facilitator:
Thorsten Harstall — Professor& Director Brand Sustainability Strategy, Campus M
Description
Sustainability certifications, claims and eco-labels no longer differentiate a brand — and many brands have failed to genuinely reach and engage a wider target audience with sustainability brand and product communiction.Rather than solving that gap, many brands have simply started to greenhush and gone quiet on sustainability altogether, which does nothing to support the transformation toward a more sustainable business and society that we actually need.Using the Kano Model, this hands-on workshop shows why communicating the same sustainability attribute can excite one audience and fall completely flat with another, and why "one message for everyone" is the most common failure mode in sustainability communication.Through real brand cases — spanning a global hotel chain, a mission-driven non-profit, a sneaker unicorn's , adidas, H&M's Conscious Collection, and other brands — participants apply a backcasting method to diagnose where their own brand's sustainability story actually lands on the Kano curve, for which audience, and why. Participants leave with a practical toolkit for translating sustainability into consumer communication that resonates — for large corporates and small, purpose-driven brands alike.
Target Audience
Sustainability, marketing and brand communication professionals and decision-makers — from established corporates to founders of purpose-driven brands — who want a practical framework for consumer trust that goes beyond claims and certifications. Also relevant for anyone building toward a career in sustainability communication.

The True Cost of Cheap Food: From 12 Crops to 365 Ingredients
Facilitators:
Chris Langwalner & Sylvie Chau
Short Description
Three-quarters of the world's food comes from just 12 crops and 5 animal species. We produce more calories than ever in human history, yet we face a quadruple burden: hunger, obesity, micronutrient deficiency, and planetary destruction. A carton of milk that costs €1 at the shelf carries up to €100 in hidden costs to soil, water, carbon, and future generations, costs that never appear on the label. Why? Because we have no True Cost Accounting.
This workshop, built around the launch of We Broke the Earth's Axis to Grow Our Food, makes the case that the regenerative food economy cannot be built on top of monoculture. It must be rebuilt from the roots: 365 ingredients a year, starting with the 30,000 edible plant species we have left behind. Through the Living Table framework and the 264 Aurora Acres scaling model, participants will explore what True Cost Accounting would look like in practice, how origin crops like Bambara groundnut and millets already prove the model, and how each of us, whether investor, entrepreneur, farmer, or policymaker, can contribute to the most ambitious food-diversity platform ever attempted.
Target Audience:
Designed for sustainability and ESG leaders, entrepreneurs and climate-tech innovators, investors and venture capital firms, policymakers, corporate executives, carbon market and climate finance professionals, development finance institutions, philanthropic organisations, agriculture and food-system leaders, NGOs, researchers, academics, family offices and impact-oriented investors.
