Porto, Port, and the Douro

Enjoy a different perspective of the city aboard this boat cruise, and discover the historic heritage of the Port Wine Cellars.

When you visit Ribeira, the neighbourhood and city area just by the river, you will certainly notice the Barcos Rabelos (Rabelos Boats) floating on the Douro river. The ones in use today are newer and larger reproductions of the typical boats that used to bring the casks of Port Wine from their production place, upstream and along the Douro valley, through a very dangerous journey down, as the water flow was not restricted by modern solutions such as dam’s, and could not be controlled.

Nowadays, these boats offer tourists and visitors a great opportunity to visit the city from another perspective, starting from the Ribeira or Gaia docks, heading almost to where the river meets the ocean, and heading back to the opposite side, and during the trip passing under the 6 bridges that connect Porto to its smaller sister city, Vila Nova de Gaia.

In order to follow the journey of the Port wine, we will also visit the cellars where they are kept until ready!
